Hello all! After reading some reviews and friends comments ...

1. We are going to Columbus Island in april and I was wondering if I can bring my professional camera? Would you feel safe to bring an expensive camera and sometimes leave it in the room? The camera is also heavy, so I wouldn't like to have it on me all the time ...

2. Is internet available in the room or just in public areas?

3. We picked a "deluxe" ocean view room. Is it going to be on the first building row near the beach and on the first floor, not the ground floor?

4. We are a couple, and I have a sort of a health condition, I am on a "convalescence" period. Will that be easy to have peace and quiet couple table for dinner even though the "themes" night?

5. Do we have to worry about sharks if we swin in the sea?

6. Do we have to worry about sand fleas?

7. Is beer free?

8. Is that true that stray dogs are dangerous if you rent a moped?

9. In Google earth, we can see a big black spot, near the resort, is that a lake?

10. Is there bahamian mass every day, and is it at the resort, on off site?

If someone would be kind to answer my question it would be gladly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Chany - let me just jump in for now on the room location question. I have an Excel file which I can send you in an email - send a Private Message to me, and I can attach the file to a Private Message to you. It was sent to me by someone in Planning at Columbus Isle, and has all of the rooms (as of 2009, anyway) with their room categories. We were in room 441 which was a deluxe ucean front room, I believe. It was upper floor. The map is divided into upper floor rooms, lower floor rooms, north of the village center or south of the village center (closer to the Sea Center). What we did to get the room we wanted was first call, then email the person in charge of Planning about 2 weeks before our trip. They will tell you they can't guarantee anything, but we got exactly the room we had requested.

Chany,

I also can answer a few of your questions.

1. Bring your camera. There is a safe in the room if you feel you want to lock it up, but we have been to CI multiple times and have never had any issues with leaving things out. I have heard that the cleaning staff are checked before they leave the resort anyways, but they are very trustworthy people and I can't see you having any issue leaving something like that in the room if need be.

2. The internet is sometimes available in the rooms. The internet is often not working fully, so you can usually get it in the public areas and sometimes in the rooms as well. It also depends on how close you are to the main building.

4. You won't have a problem finding peace and quiet at this resort. Whether it be on the beach (which is VERY quiet) or in the evening at dinner you will always be able to find a quiet spot. Every night has a different theme, for both clothing (which is optional) and food, but this doesn't really effect how loud or quiet the evening is. If you aren't able to get a table for 2 outside you shouldn't have a problem finding a table inside. Just ask the lovely staff at the restaurant for a quiet table and I'm sure they will help you out, even if it means waiting a little while for a table.

5. You do not have to worry about sharks near the beach.

6. While I would bring bug spray for the evenings, or if you plan on walking the beach at night, we have never noticed sand fleas.

7. Yes, beer is free. There is even a tap at the buffet for you to get your own with lunch and dinner.

8. We have rented scooters before but didn't see any stray dogs.

10. There is a mass that you can go to off the resort on Sunday. I believe it's a 5 minute bus ride that can be arranged at the resort.

Hope this answers some of your questions!

Chany,
There is a lot of lakes on the island, and the best way to see them is to go by the light house.
We do not have as many dogs as we used to. They used to follow people on bicycle but were not known to be dangerous.
We do organise a trip for gospel mass every sunday, we charge 20$ for the bus but most of the money is given to the church. It is situated at Cockburn town which is 3 min from the club.
it is rare we see sharks in front of the club, since there is not o lot of reef, but if you did of if you do while snorkeling or diving, they are not known to be agressive (...just like our few dogs..:)
we had a lot of sand fleas the last 2 months, not so much mosquitos since the winter was actually really dry.
If you do have more questions , dont hesitate :)
