San Salvador, Bahamas - The Nike Junior Tour (NJT) will be hosting their International Masters at Club Med Columbus Isle on the island of San Salvador in the Bahamas beginning today to the 14th of December. Dec
2010
The tournament caters to boys and girls under-12 and under-14. They will come from 30 different countries after having qualified for the totally new experience.
For the past two years the tournament has been played on hard courts but this year they will compete on clay.
To fall in line with global trends and the environmental and sustainable policy of the host resort, the tournament organisers and sponsors have decided to use recycled glass to make up trophies for this prestigious event.
Ngwenya Glass of Swaziland in Southern Africa was commissioned by the organisers to design and produce environmentally friendly trophies for the tournament winners. Ngwenya Glass is famed for strictly using recycled glass collected by the local community in Swaziland to manufacture their products.
Club Med Columbus Isle is involved in the world wide certification program for sustainable tourism called Green Globe. This eco label is the only international benchmarking and certification program for the tourism industry based on the United Nations principles for sustainable development.
Philippe Weiss, Chairman of the Nike Junior Tour International Masters, said that it was important for the tournament to compliment the host resort’s excellent environmental record. “Club Med Columbus Isle was awarded with the Silver Green Globe Benchmark this year and we are pleased and proud that our tournament will be played at this special environmentally friendly location and that our joint efforts in working together with the resort will be recognized and compliment the resort’s environmental policy.”
