Hi All,
I see a lot of you guys have been to the Caribbean. I am looking for January 2011 as a couple. Between Boucanieres and Columbus.
Good beach, excursions, fun over night, any other tips appreciated! Would you recommend connection on Montreal or MIami coming from Europe?
Up to know, the votes are towards Columbus. Looking for your opinions!

Thanks,
very junior

The beach is better at Columbus. The excursions at Les Boucaniers are better, hands down. Martinique is a much prettier island. In January the weather at Columbus is sketchy at best. The water will be on the cool side. Les Boucaniers will have ideal weather. Now Les Boucaniers is very French, almost exclusively. It didn't used to be. Columbus is more of a mixed bag. If you speak French and have the money, then Les Boucaniers is the only choice.

Boucaniers should have better night life too. Last I checked, the nightclub at Columbus was only open a few days a week. Miami airport is horrible for connections (I got stuck there for a good while), but to avoid snowy weather, probably better to connect there (and give yourself a lot of time for the transfer!)

Agree with both posts above. Columbus in January can be very cold, rainy, stormy. Ask them how many times they have to take the dock apart... We were there once at the end of January and would not go there again at that time. Went to Boucaniers at the end of January when it first reopened a few years ago - excellent snorkeling, weather was perfect. Plenty to do on the island. Hope you can stay for more than 7 days - good excursions, some of them whole day.

What about direct flights from Paris to FDF? One of the reasons we haven't been back is that it takes a long time to get there from NY (there was a direct charter the year we went - doesn't exist any more as far as I can tell). We almost considered going to Paris and leaving from there!

Have a great trip!

Thanks a lot! Got surpised on the weather difference between the 2:-) It looks like Boucanieres is a winner. French is manageable:-) Yes ORY to FDF is one option to consider. Definitelly stay more than 7 days...
