Under the "Past Resorts" list I don't see Kauai, Hawaii. I was there about 1975. Nice club. Beautiful Island.

In fact, lots of closed villages aren't listed. You're perfectly right.
But then, what's the point of whining about not existing villages anymore. Just my point of vue. One of my fav villages isn't among the closed ones too.

Let's live the present and the villages open or due to open.

Wow, finally seeing someone else who was in Kauai. I still watch South Pacific when the movie starts to see the beach. Or some of the Elvis Hawaiian movies shot there. It was a beautiful location, but just logistically so spread out.

I will have to dig them out from my archives. Before prints and digital. Have to scan in some slides but I will try to do it soon.

I would love to see those photos. On my site at smugmug I have lots of photos of the clubs, including the ones that are closed. The site tracks how many people visit the different photo albums. Very interestingly, the heaviest volume, by far, is on the sites that are now closed, especially Paradise Island and Moorea. So Kiki, it is not just whining. There are people's precious memories involved. I received a very touching comment on Moorea, written in French, about a husband and his wife and their honeymoon spent at Club Med Moorea. They had lost their photos, and my photos, taken about the same time, brought back some wonderful memories for them.

If anyone comes up with photos of the Kauai Club Med I would love to see them. As John pointed out to Kiki, memories are the reward for being there in the first place. I was never at the Kauai Club Med but had been in Hanalei (on my way to the Kalalau Valley via Taylor camp) in 1973. At the time, the name of the resort was Hanalei Plantation. The only record I have of that is a postcard that I bought off eBay that is an aerial view across the river. At the time of my visit I was a poor middle class college "hippy) and didn't own a camera. I visit Hanalei every other year and have walked through the "ruins" of the foundations of the resort. That is the best view of Hanalei Bay and must have been a real treat for those that stayed there!

Well if ever get to see the movie South Pacific, that is the public beach the club used. And the home of Emil is the site where the club's rooms were located. I have the pictures so buried but will try to dig them up. They are slides and so need to convert to jpg.

Jim-

The site of Emil's house was the family home of the Sanborn Family. I was fortunate to meet young (70's +) Pete Sanborn a couple of years ago. He related to me growing up in Princeville and riding horses and herding cattle on the family ranch which is now the Hanalei Bay Resort / Princeville area. They allowed the production company to use their property for filming. Last summer I also had the lucky privilege of meeting Mrs Wilcox who must be in her late 80's someplace. Her family is the Wilcox missionary family and they basically own most of the beach front property along west (?) Wiki Rd to the pier. I feel very fortunate to have made these connections to a past era of Hanalei. The old photos that the Wilcox family has of the area are amazing!
I hope some day you can post your photos I think a lot of people would be very happy to see them!

I love those old style T-shirts. I bet that they could be big sellers in the clubs now. It is odd that no one could make that place work. Beautiful setting, but a long way to the beach.

John

It was a LONG way to all activities. Only rooms, theater and restaurant and administrative offices in the main area. Had to travel to tennis and golf also.
