I am sure this has been discussed before... but is it really a good idea to go there as a lone traveller? What is the atmosphere like this season? Is it worth trying?

(I would have loved to go to Turks but the flight is far too expensive...)

Thanks

very couples oriented, honeymoons and romantic getaways, etc.
We didnt run into many singles there other than the GO's.

45 Days to go as of Aug 20, but who's counting

(Flight to CI is less expensive than to Turkoise?? That's a bit surprising to me...)
Although CI is pretty well couples oriented, we have always met several singles there also. I'd guess perhaps 15 - 20% of the people are singles. What is interesting is that it seems (to me) that there are more women singles than men.

Amateur GO is right on. I would agree with that assessment. There are always some singles there. I met two singles there 5 years ago and we still email one another. Now, that being said, there isn't a lot of exciting things to do there into the wee hours of the night. Scuba divers don't party much. The main change is the mix of nationalities. Sometimes more French than others.

I'll always remember one single guy we met at CI.. back in 2001; the week of Sept 11, 2001 to be exact. He was a NYC (Staten Island) fireman. We asked him if he knew any of the fireman who would have been in the WT Towers and he said "yes, probably about 300 of them". That was a very unique week for all of us at CI, certainly it had to be the hardest on him.

Club Med France has a super offer for departures between August 27 and October 15.
1,090€ (approx. US$ 1,670) per person for one week (1,700€ for two weeks), direct charter flight from/to Paris. Minimal single supplement.

I have myself a couple of French GM friends who will be among the lucky ones to be able to profit from that offer.
I would have joined them, but I can't take my holiday until October and they go before that.

I believe, they are trying to fill their weekly charter from Paris which usually takes GMs not only to Columbus, but also to Punta Cana. But since the latter will be closed for the final renovations, they're interested to fill those chartered flights.

Basically, it's cheaper than some villages around the Mediterranean Sea like Kemer, Grégo, etc.

Consequently, I believe, there will be quite a number of French and other European GMs (all are booked through Paris) during the period mentioned.

Kiki - that is precisely the offer I am trying to take advantage of. Problem is that I don't speak any French and I will probably find it quite difficult - especially if I were to travel alone.

There is a lot of good advice here. So many thanks for that. I will probably go ahead and book the holiday tomorrow!

Don't worry about not speaking French... there will be enough "North Americans" and others for whom English is their first (and perhaps only) language who will be glad to meet up with other English speakers. You'll find each other very quickly and everything will be fine. We were in CI last Sept and this was the case then...

I wouldn't worry too much about not speaking French and about travelling by yourself. If you participate in the activities, you'll meet others very quickly. Also, with this special offer, maybe, there will be more singles (mainly from Europe) than usual and not just French speaking ones.

Go ahead and book. It's a unique opportunity to get to CI from Europe for a terrific price.
However, the weekly charter flight is on Wednesday (XL Airways) and leaves Paris CDG at 08:55 AM. Consequently, you'll have to fly into Paris the day before and take a hotel at your charge. Choose one right at CDG. Also, you'll have to add the flight from where you live to CDG to the package.

PS: Maybe, you'll add the country you're from into your profile, so that it will appear below your name. I just can't remember. Turkey?

Wow, that's super cheap. Just back from one week in Turquoise but with having two weeks off in October this sounds very tempting...

Hallöchen Thomas

Hope your Turks week was fine. BB will be there soon, but you'll know that, I suppose.
What about a short review?

Gruss aus Zürich.

Yes, a short review/comment would be good. We've heard some rather "mixed" comments lately about Turkoise so would like to get another viewpoint.
We'll be there the same week as BB (planned that way.. :-) ) Although BB spends most of her time underwater these days, we plan on getting her back on some of the Hobie 16s since she is also an excellent sailor.

Ok, here's a short review: I was in Turkoise from 08-16Sep. Got a very good deal with Margarita Travel (compared to the prices quoted at CM.de) ex Miami. Had a very nice room (building B) - after 2x Bora and Lindeman Island I had the impression that this was my best CM room ever. Looked newly renovated and even had a flatscreen TV (never used it obviously). GOs super friendly, Flavia full of energy (shouting into the micro whenever she had a chance: "energia", "come one, come one", or "check check"). Good vibes at the disco - never came home before 2 or 3. A lot of GMs from Montreal, some from NY and California, a lot of French and some Italians. Great mixture. One evening we had a table with everybody from a different country. I will definitely go to Turkoise again!

Thanks Thomas. Sounds like a great week. IMO, it's always nice to have a good mix of nationalities.

Oh, I'd give quite something to be in that hammock right now!

I am sick of the weather we're having here.
