Hi,
sorry, could anyone explain me what does it mean GO and GM?
I've never been in a Club Med, but I plan to do it soon, but I don't understand the meaning.

Thanks,

Welcome vins!

GO = gentil organisateur (nice animator)
GM = gentil membre (nice member/guest)
GE = gentil employé (nice employers)

I recommend you do some reading here and there, since you'll come across other typical CM words like CDV (chef de village), CDS (chef des sports), etc.

PS: Posts in English only. Thanks.

My first time to Club Med was 2003. It was Club Med Bali.
Just before I went to the Club Med village, I read materials and knew what was GO and what was GM.

For the first night in the village, I knew that the guys and gals in the reception were staffs, so they were GOs. I knew that the one who took me to my room was a GO (I told him that it was my first time travel alone and it was my first time to Club Med. He talked to me in English and Chinese and gave me two maps and gave me two time tables). I also knew who were the sports GOs during the information meeting. Similarly, the staffs in the night show were GOs.

However, I was very stupid, I did not notice that many other people in the restaurant during dinner time and drinking around the bar at night were actually GOs, I thought that they were GMs. Until the next morning, I met a super strong guy in the restaurant (I recognised he was in the night show, so I knew he was a GO). He invited me to have breakfast with him and he told me that people with a name tag are GOs and all others are GMs.

Hi Ric,

You also have the GEs, i.e. the gentils employés (the local staff which does not move). They are usually working at the restaurants, at the bar and are doing our rooms. They also do have name tags (except for the room GEs and the lower staff at the restos). You can recognize them easily, since they do not follow the dress codes and you won't see them doing the crazy signs! Depending on the village, they go home after work to join their family.

Now that I am thinking of it: The name tags, it's depends on the village. At La Pointe aux Canonniers the guys doing the rooms did have them.

PS: It's getting late in Hongkong!

GO = Goes withOut. goes without sleep, goes without dinner, goes without telephone, goes without clean clothes, goes without internet, goes without a minute to themselves, goes without a room when the village is full. but several things a GO NEVER goes without are friends, memories, and good times.

Hi Kiki de M and abdellabdella,

You are right.
GOs don't have their room when the village is full ?!
Several weeks ago, I booked Club Med Holiday, both Cherating and Bintan are very full. Finally, I got a room in Bintan and I will go to Bintan on 26 Aug 2007. I remember that the room in Bintan is quite big. There are three beds in a room. As I stay in the room by myself, so I can invite two GOs to stay with me ?!

Ric,

"GOs don't have their room when the village is full ?!"

back in the olden days when a village was booked solid for a holiday or special occasion, or just over booked by accident, a few GO's might be asked to vacate their rooms to make room for GM's. they would be shuffled around and put on a cot in another GO room. (this doesn't happen every week)

"As I stay in the room by myself, so I can invite two GOs to stay with me ?!"

if you can find two GO's who are willing to sleep with you at the same time then i say go for it!

Hi addellabdella,

I am joking only.
If I were a young and beautiful girl, many GOs are eager to sleep with me.

Hello,
I just applied online for a GO in Asia^^ but I'm wondering about a few things:

As you mentioned earlier that GE are local staff such as cooks. I applied for a cook position, but is it possible for me to be a GO? or kitchen staff are limited to GE only?

Thanks for your answer ^^

If you applied through the Club, you are applying for a G.O position. If you lived locally, and applied like you would any other job, (calling, presenting a resume to the local kitchen boss), you would be hired as a G.E. Basically, if you are living AT the Club and taking all of your meals there, you are G.O. G.E's do not normally live on the premises of the Club.

still, some G.Es DO live in the G.O-quarters. in napitia, some of the kitchen staff came to the night club and had their rooms with us, the G.Os
