Hi Magic,
I love Bintan (as you might have guessed)! I find it very beautiful and I have a wonderful time everytime I go!
The village is not as typically Asian as Bali or Cherating (construction-wise), it is more modern (it's sort of Asian-modern if you see what I mean). I really don't mind I actually find it just as nice as the other Asian villages I've been to! Now some people prefer the typical balinese, malay, thai, buildings and if you prefer something more typical (as you are coming to Asia from Europe) you might not appreciate the village.
However, the beach is amazing (the best of all the Asian villages I've been to : Cherating, Phuket, Bali, Bintan) and the food is great (a lot of variety). The sports (circus fitness) are also very good. If you are into golf I've heard that the golf course is magnificent (i don't play golf myself but i have heard it from people who do). One negative point at the village is animation (shows...). Indeed, the quality of the shows is not as good as the ones in other Asian villages.
Concerning the ferry, the company is called "Bintan resort ferries" (there is only one). The trip is 45 minutes. A great thing about Bintan is that the bus trip from the terminal to the villages is only about 15 minutes. Concerning the bookings, i'm sorry but i can't really help you (i'm 15 and my parents ususally handle that), you should post a new topic asking about it, i'm sure people will be glad to help!
i suggest you visit
www.clubmed.com.sg if you haven't already. Select Bintan and look at the pictures to see if it's to your taste (again this depends on wheter or not having a typical construction is important to you). Remember, just because it isn't typically Asian doesn't make it less beautiful than the other villages, i actually find some parts of the village much nicer than Phuket (the room blocks particularly).
hope i could help and don't hesitate to ask more questions if you need to ;-)
PS: check out the "would you recommend cherating?" topic in the Cherating forum. If you keep reading, people have compared it to other Asian villages and have talked about Bintan.
