It may be a bit late for this but as I got back from Nabeul last month I thought I would share my experiences...
GO's : Great team, fun, friendly, relaxed mainly French and Tunisian - all worked together well - if there were politics we never saw it. Was surprised to see several sick GO's (flu, boils, sprains etc etc) still working which may explain the lack of super charged energy by the GO's seen in other villages. My friend and I were the only English (and single
) GMs in the village which meant we got more than our fair share of attention
GM's : Not a party village - the nightclub was dead by 12.00 so went out with the GO's to a club in Hammamet for fun and frolics. GM's were 90% French which personally is fine for me as I hate going on holiday with English people (too drunk and too many idiots) altho a more continental mix would have been great. I also speak reasonable French so the language thing was never a problem - altho we found everyone (GMs and GOs) wanted to practice their English with us.
Only 60 kids in the village (4 per GO if anyone is interested !) but mostly they were in the mini-clubs in the day and you could easily find kid-free tables for dinner. The week before was French school holidays with a whopping 400 ! Wouldn't recommend to go to this village if you are single during school holidays but for us - it was perfect. The French kids are so sweet and polite and perfectly behaved anyway we didn't mind them at all - in fact it was nice.
cdv : Guiseppe Carlini - an absolute superstar. Very visible day and night. Always went round the dinner tables and the pool/beach talking to people and making sure they were having a good time did a turn in le spectacle every night too. He always made a point of speaking to us in English and explaining stuff in the welcome meeting and at the show in English. One night we ended up having a late dinner and sat on a table alone - he saw this and mistakenly thought that no-one had sat with us so he made sure a GO sat with us every night !! We also couldn't understand that by day 2 everyone was saying 'hello' instead of the customary 'Bonjour'....we later found out the cdv had briefed the GOs that we were the only English GMs and everyone had to speak to us in English...lovely gesture but not necessary !!
He also made the chef go and cook my friend more Merguez as they had run out by the time she had got to the buffet ! Lovely lovely man I hope he reads this...
Village : Accomodation is fine - usual basic clean comfortable CM room. We were very near to the theatre so it was a bit noisy some nights but never a problem. The theatre is outside - they give you blankets to sit on or wrap up with. ONe night there was a huge lightening and thunderstorm so the show just upped and moved into the nightclub where it carried on...so Club Med !
Sports: I forgot my trainers (doh) so was limited on what I could do...but I did do Trapeze which is the reason we picked the village. Adult lessons in the afternoon with plenty of time to learn and practice. (never more than 6 people each day!) I guess its b/c most GMs in a family village want to relax and enjoy the time away from their kids - not chuck themselves over a metal bar so....plenty of flying time and 1-1 instruction for those of us that did
The chief of circus arrived the week I was there from Guadalope (?) - can't remember his name - poss Bruno not sure.
Beach : Gorgeous not Caribbean or South Pacific but safe, warmish and clean - didn't see any jellyfish. Loads of umbrellas and sunbeds - ditto for the poolside too. The Trapeze is next to the beach so you can watch the waves as you fly - magical! At night there were security people so 'clandestine' rendevouz were often 'interrupted' by security checking you weren't a minor - lots of rules regarding GO's working with kids, being out after dark etc. not sure what, but if it protects les enfants - has to be a good thing right ?
